Connecting AI capability to inclusive finance
The Microfinance Support Centre extends affordable development finance and business development support to institutions and economically active Ugandans, with particular attention to agriculture and communities that may not be fully served by conventional finance.
Delivering this mandate requires teams to manage credit information, monitor programmes and portfolios, support customers and partner institutions, prepare reports, and coordinate substantial administrative work. MSC engaged Otic to help their staff understand where AI could support these responsibilities responsibly.
Many of MSC's workflows contained manual information processing and repeated administrative activity. The institution needed more than a general introduction to AI. Teams required a practical understanding of how the technology could apply to their actual work, where human oversight was indispensable, and what risks must be managed.
We delivered a 2-day capability enhancement programme attended by teams across the organisation. The sessions connected AI concepts to practical scenarios in: - credit appraisal and supporting analysis - portfolio and programme monitoring - operational and management reporting - customer and stakeholder service - enterprise and business development support - knowledge retrieval and document analysis - programme administration
Participants examined how AI can structure information, accelerate first drafts, surface relevant knowledge, and support analysis. The programme also emphasised verification, privacy, responsible use, and the limits of automated outputs in financial and development contexts.
